In-Season
Programs
Upon completion of the pre-season program,
the athlete will take a week off from training.
This off week should be the week of the first game of the season. The athlete does not need to re-test their
one-rep maximums unless they have a desire to do so. Instead, they can continue to use their 1RM
that they used at the end of the pre-season program.
The in-season portion of the training
cycle lasts the duration of the season, approximately 8 weeks. This is the only portion of the program where
more of the training emphasis is upon maintenance of strength and power gains
and injury prevention as opposed to strength and power increases. While muscular strength and power may indeed
increase during the in-season period, it is not typical. The philosophy behind the in-season program
is to maintain as much of the muscular development and physical conditioning as
possible to enable the athlete to remain-injury free throughout the season, and
to be able to perform at the same physical level at the end of the season as
they had at the beginning of the season.
